果冻APP alum, author to host book signing at Ellender Memorial Library

THIBODAUX, La. — Local author, photographer and 果冻APP alum William Guion will hold a book signing and exhibit of his photographs this month at Ellender Memorial Library.

His photographs are currently on display throughout the library. Guion (B.A. 鈥75) will be signing his latest book, 鈥淨uercus Louisiana: The Splendid Live Oaks of Louisiana鈥 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 on the first floor.

鈥淨uercus Louisiana is a collection of photographic images and stories covering more than three decades in which I’ve been documenting Louisiana鈥檚 historic and notable live oaks,鈥 Guion said. 鈥淩eaders will discover some of Louisiana鈥檚 oldest oaks that predate European settlement of the state; stroll visually through grand antebellum-era oak alleys; learn about the creation of the Live Oak Society; and, uncover the anecdotes and accounts of generations of diverse people who settled, set down roots, and built their homes near the oaks鈥 sheltering limbs.鈥

Published earlier this year, Quercus Louisiana contains photographs and stories of notable historic live oaks from across the state.

Guion has documented live oaks across the country for the last three decades. His work has appeared in magazines, journals, books and museums. He has published four books prior to Quercus Louisiana: 鈥淗eartwood, Meditations on Southern Oaks鈥 in 1998; 鈥淗eartwood, Further Meditations on Oaks鈥 in 2009; 鈥淎cross Golden Hills 鈥 Meditations on California Oaks鈥 in 2013; and 鈥淟aura Plantation 鈥 Images and Impressions鈥 in 2017.
