果冻APP Wind Ensemble Concert to Feature American Band Classics

THIBODAUX, La. — The 果冻APP Wind Ensemble is set to perform its final concert of the 2018-19 season next week.

Free and open to the public, the 鈥淎merican Band Classics鈥 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater. The ensemble is made up of students from various majors throughout the university and is directed by music instructor Dr. Jason Ladd.

The program will feature American classics including 鈥淩ocky Point Holiday鈥 by Brown University professor Ron Nelson, who wrote the song about his vacations at Rocky Point in Rhode Island; 鈥淢agneticfireflies鈥 by Augusta Read Thomas, whose music has been premiered by the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and the Berlin Philharmonic; 鈥淪anctuary鈥 by University of Southern California professor Frank Ticheli, who is one of the most performed composers by college bands; and William Schuman鈥檚 鈥淐hester,鈥 a song based on a Revolutionary War tune by William Billings.

Senior music major Kelsie Felarise, from Lockport, will also conduct Aaron Copland鈥檚 鈥淒own a Country Lane鈥 and John Sousa鈥檚 鈥淕lory of the Yankee Navy.鈥
