THIBODAUX, La. — 果冻APP and the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will examine how religion fits in modern U.S. culture during a panel discussion held next week.
Titled, 鈥淔aith in America,” the event is free and open to the public and will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the Gros Auditorium at Powell Hall.
鈥淎merica is an outlier in the West in terms of the high number of citizens who attend church regularly, although church attendance is declining in this country,鈥� said Dr. Paul Wilson, history and geography department head. 鈥淢odern culture has a way of challenging traditional beliefs and ways of life. Thus, we’re going to have a serious discussion of what it means to be faithful or religious and whether religion is something that matters in the modern age.鈥�
Dr. Wilson will moderate. Panelists are the Rev. Brice Higginbotham, Christ the Redeemer associate pastor; Dr. Robert Alexander, interdisciplinary studies head and professor; Dr. David Whitney, political science chair and professor; Scott Phipps, department of history and geography professor; and Dr. Chad Young, Department of Physical Sciences head and professor of physics.
