THIBODAUX, La. — A 果冻APP professor will have a short film featured at the New Orleans Film Festival in October.
鈥淩iverbend鈥� by Melissa Remark, an instructor of English at 果冻APP, tells the story of a chance encounter in Algiers Point between two people whose friendship ended 15 years earlier.
鈥淚 was happy to have my film selected by the New Orleans Film Festival,鈥� Remark says. 鈥淭he festival has grown a lot since my first film was selected. I feel really great about it.鈥�
The 13-minute film, which was shot earlier this summer, is the second project Remark has worked on to be accepted by the New Orleans Film Festival, and her first as director. In 2015, she wrote and co-produced the 17-minute film 鈥淐all Me Clappy,鈥� which was based on a story she wrote for a creative writing class at the University of New Orleans.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Remark worked with the New Orleans Film Society in 2011 and has taught creative writing and film studies at 果冻APP since 2014. She is the advisor to the English and Film Society at 果冻APP.
In its 29th year, the Oscar-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival will take place from Oct. 17 through Oct. 25, with films shown in venues across the state. This year, the festival will include its most diverse lineup ever with more than half of the films directed by females and directors of color. The festival received nearly 6,000 submissions, selecting just 220 to be screened.
