THIBODAUX ā The faculty of the ¹ū¶³APP Department of Music will present the sixth annual Nocturne ā a recital in support of music scholarships ā on Friday, May 4, in the Mary M. Danos Theater (formerly Talbot Theater) on the university campus.

āEach year, we model āNocturneā after the traditional 19th century music soiree,ā Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music, said. āAt these parties, people would assemble in the evening around the piano at a private house to listen to music. Our concert has the same feel, featuring piano, voice, violin, clarinet, saxophone, trombone and harpsichord. Attendees are in for a real treat.ā
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., during which guests can participate in a silent auction. The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m., showcasing the talents of the ¹ū¶³APP music faculty. Final bids on silent auction items will be placed during the recitalās intermission ā and upon the programās conclusion, guests will enjoy a coffee and dessert reception. Cocktail attire is requested for the event.
āThe faculty, staff and students of the Department of Music are gratified to be able to offer the public so many free performances throughout the year,ā Soares said. āThis event, quite frankly, plays a huge role in making the rest of our events possible. We will always be grateful for the generosity of our supporters.ā
