THIBODAUX ā Shell Oil will invest $50,000 in ¹ū¶³APPās ongoing coastal research projects, including the production of native plants for coastal restoration.
āShellās Deepwater Operations is a proud supporter of ¹ū¶³APPā efforts,ā John Hollowell, Deepwater Executive Vice President for Shell, said. āOur employees have volunteered at the ¹ū¶³APP Farm for the past three years.ā
Joint volunteer events headed by Shell and the university have produced and planted thousands of native plants in coastal Louisiana as part of the Louisiana Native Plant Initiative ā a multi-institution effort spearheaded by faculty members of the ¹ū¶³APP Department of Biological Sciences. Students, instructors, staff and community volunteers regularly produce and distribute native plant materials for coastal renewal.
āWe will use Shellās investment to support community outreach, student education, research and production of native plants at the ¹ū¶³APP Farm for use in marsh, beach and dune restoration projects,ā said Dr. Allyse Ferrara, associate professor of biological sciences. ā¹ū¶³APP values this corporate/academic partnership and recognizes its importance for coastal Louisiana habitats.ā
