THIBODAUX 鈥� The 2010 National Women鈥檚 Leadership Summit, sponsored by the Louisiana Center for Women and Government at 果冻APP, will open Thursday, June 3, at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska.
Headlining the three-day event is keynote speaker Lisa Ling, journalist, host of National Geographic鈥檚 鈥淓xplorer鈥� and special correspondent for the 鈥淥prah Winfrey Show鈥� and CNN.
Ling launched her journalism career as a correspondent for Channel One News, covering the civil war in Afghanistan at 21 years old. She later joined ABC鈥檚 鈥淭he View,鈥� which won its first daytime Emmy during her stint. Currently a special correspondent for CNN鈥檚 鈥淧lanet in Peril鈥� series and contributing editor for USA Today’s USA Weekend magazine, Ling is slated to have her own series on the new channel OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The National Women鈥檚 Leadership Summit is an annual, bipartisan effort that allows women leaders and opinion-makers from local, state and federal levels 鈥� as well as the private sector 鈥� to participate in roundtable discussions on national issues. This year鈥檚 focus is energy and the environment.
Approximately 150 women leaders from across the nation are expected to participate, including honorary co-chairs U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, and U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington.
