Community Bank supplements ¹û¶³APP student’s education

THIBODAUX – Catherine Loupe, a graduate of Berwick High School and freshman broadcast journalism major at ¹û¶³APP, has been awarded the Community Bank Excellence in Mass Communication Endowed Scholarship for the Spring 2008 semester.

The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarship Committee to a mass communication major chosen from among an application pool of entering freshmen who have graduated from a Louisiana high school. The four-year award, among the largest endowed scholarships at ¹û¶³APP, was created by the family of ¹û¶³APP donor Harold Callais. The scholarship pays about $1,000 per semester as long as the recipient is a full-time student in mass communication and earns at least a 2.75 grade-point average each semester.

Callais, a former Golden Meadow entrepreneur and civic leader, founded a number of businesses across south Louisiana, mostly in the fields of mass communication, banking and solid waste disposal. He was a member of the Louisiana Board of Regents since 1983, serving as chairman from 1996 to 1998. Callais died in 2000 while on a scuba diving trip in the Gulf of Mexico. Over the years, Callais and his businesses have been recognized with several of ¹û¶³APP’ highest awards and honors.

Individuals or organizations interested in establishing an endowed fund to benefit ¹û¶³APP students or faculty should contact the ¹û¶³APP Office of Development at (985) 448-4009.
