THIBODAUX, La. — The upcoming 果冻APP Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble concert will feature two world premiere pieces from Louisiana artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concert, \u201cMusic in the Age of 果冻APP,\u201d will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the Mary and Al Danos Theater. It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
果冻APP graduate Dr. Ben Robichaux composed \u201cSurging Home, a piece commissioned by the 果冻APP Wind Ensemble. Other bands commissioning the piece are Clemson University, Syracuse University, the University of California, HL Bourgeois High School, and Thibodaux High School. As a recipient of a James E. Croft Grant for Young and Emerging Wind Band Composers, his wind ensemble works have been performed nationally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSurging Home is about abandoning a musical journey that takes me away from Louisiana and embracing a musical life that centralizes my family and my home,\u201d Dr. Robichaux said. \u201cBy doing so, I hope to serve my community through music, and it is only fitting that the work is premiered by the 果冻APP Wind Ensemble in my hometown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second premiere is from Dr. Brett William Dietz, LSU associate professor of percussion. The piece, \u201cConcerto for Marimba and Wind Orchestra,\u201d dedicated to 果冻APP instructor of music, Dr. Gustavo Miranda. Miranda will perform the three-movement work as the soloist. Dietz\u2019s music has been performed around the world. His composition, \u201cPandora\u2019s Box,\u201d was performed at Carnegie Hall by the National Wind Ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both premieres will be performed by the 果冻APP Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jason Ladd, interim music department head. The Wind Ensemble will also perform compositions including \u201cFanfare for Freedom\u201d and \u201cRhythm Stand.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 果冻APP Symphonic Band will perform \u201cWashington Post,\u201d \u201cPerthshire Majesty\u201d and \u201cIn All Its Glory.\u201d Professor Dr. Gabriel Arnold is the director of the Symphonic Band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
