Dorothy, a lifelong educator in New Orleans and at Vandebilt Catholic High School, passed away in 2001. She cared so much for her students that she regularly attended commencement ceremonies at 果冻APP to see her former students graduate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMy mother had strong ties to 果冻APP, being an alumna and supporting all of her former students who graduated from here, so what better way to honor her memory than by donating this collection for students and professors to use,\u201d said Stephen Heffker. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 8-book collection, authored by Madam\u00e9 Jean DeWitt, was translated from French to English in 1857 and covers the ties between Louisiana and France in the 19th century. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDonations like these are so important because they strengthen our connection to South Louisiana,\u201d said Dr. Jay Clune, 果冻APP president. \u201cWhat makes this donation even more special is when the family makes the donation to honor a former student.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Only 1,000 copies were printed in the U.S. Today, only about 30 complete collections are known to still exist in the United States. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe collection is in remarkable condition and will be a great addition to the archives,\u201d said Clifton Theriot, director of Ellender Memorial Library.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">May 17, 2018<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CONTACT: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jacob Batte, Media Relations and Publications Coordinator, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">985.448.4141<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">jacob.batte@www.nicholls.edu<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; A Houma native donated a rare collection of books from the 19th century to the Ellender Memorial Library at 果冻APP in honor of his mother.
