{"id":6559,"date":"2018-03-16T16:51:48","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T21:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6559"},"modified":"2018-03-16T16:51:48","modified_gmt":"2018-03-16T21:51:48","slug":"nicholls-biology-students-bring-home-awards-from-state-science-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2018\/03\/16\/nicholls-biology-students-bring-home-awards-from-state-science-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"果冻APP biology students bring home awards from state science conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; Three 果冻APP biology students were recognized for their research last Saturday during the 92nd annual Louisiana Academy of Sciences meeting in Alexandria. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sixteen 果冻APP students and faculty attended the day-long meeting held on the campus of LSU-Alexandria. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Megan Boudreaux received the Outstanding Undergraduate Oral Presentation award in the Sciences and Humanities Division for her research on medical forensics. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kyle Bird, a graduate marine and environmental biology student, received the Outstanding Graduate Poster Presentation award in the Environmental Sciences Section for his research on water quality, bacteria and antibiotic resistance in Bayou Lafourche. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alexis Risner, a graduate marine and environmental biology student, received the Outstanding Graduate Oral Presentation award in the Zoology Section for research into Bowfin diets and reproductive activity in the Upper Barataria Estuary and Atchafalaya River Basin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of our students. They have once again shown that students from 果冻APP can put their research up against students from bigger universities and be successful,\u201d said Dr. Quenton Fontenot, department head of Biological Sciences. \u201cIt also shows that they\u2019re developing great communication skills, which will help them get jobs when they graduate.
