{"id":2564,"date":"2011-07-06T16:50:58","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T21:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=2564"},"modified":"2011-07-06T16:50:58","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T21:50:58","slug":"nicholls-college-of-arts-and-sciences-welcomes-new-dean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2011\/07\/06\/nicholls-college-of-arts-and-sciences-welcomes-new-dean\/","title":{"rendered":"果冻APP College of Arts and Sciences welcomes new dean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX \u2013 Dr. John Doucet, distinguished service professor, acting head of the Department of Biological Sciences and director of the University Honors Program at 果冻APP, has been named interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for the 2011-12 academic year, pending approval of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2011\/07\/Doucet2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-2567\" title=\"John DoucetEnvironmental Portrait\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2011\/07\/Doucet2-354x540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a>\u201cDr. Doucet&#8217;s education, experience and personal interests are varied and comprehensive in their relation to what the College of Arts and Sciences delivers and represents,\u201d Dr. Allayne Barrilleaux, vice president for academic affairs, said. \u201cHe will be an exceptional addition to the academic council of 果冻APP as he helps us enhance the quality of the arts and sciences programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A researcher, administrator and educator, Doucet became Louisiana\u2019s first certified public health geneticist in 2010. His contributions to academia include more than 150 extramural presentations, letters and workshops and more than 50 full-length publications, including stage plays and history books. Doucet has also secured more than $1 million in competitive research grants, and he is a three-time chairman of the board for Leadership Lafourche Inc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to serving the university and the\u00a0region in this greater capacity,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cI hope to grow the college and make it a stronger academic\u00a0experience\u00a0for\u00a0students as well as faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doucet succeeds Dr. Badiollah Asrabadi, a 31-year 果冻APP veteran who retired earlier this summer.
