THIBODAUX \u2013 The inaugural performance of 果冻APP\u2019s newest student ensemble, the 果冻APP Camerata, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Members of the 果冻APP Camerata, pictured clockwise from upper left, include violinist Gilson Filho of the 果冻APP Conservatory; violinist Daniel Lima, freshman; Alexander; violist Sorin Spasinvici, freshman; violinist Christiano Rodrigues, senior; violinist Deborah Ribeiro, junior; cellist Diego Mesquita of the 果冻APP Conservatory; and violist Danieli Johnson of the 果冻APP Conservatory. All degree candidates are in the Department of Music\u2019s Bachelor of Arts program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A small chamber orchestra, the 果冻APP Camerata will feature the violin, viola, cello, bass and harpsichord. Student players will join director James Alexander, adjunct instructor of music and harpsichordist Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music. Guest cellist Martin Merker, a member of the Swiss ensemble Camerata Bern and the Offenburg String Trio, will perform Haydn\u2019s D Major Cello Concerto with the ensemble.\u00a0 Also on the program are Dvorak\u2019s String Serenade as well as a Concerto Grosso of Vivaldi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new orchestra will perform without a conductor,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cI am quite excited about this new resource for the university, and we all look forward to performing for the people of the Bayou Region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander said the 果冻APP Camerata will perform several times on campus throughout the coming year, as well as at the Pelican State Chamber Music Series in Baton Rouge and New Roads, La.<\/p>\n

The new orchestra is the 果冻APP Department of Music\u2019s 13th ensemble. Others include the 果冻APP Basketball Pep Band; Blue Bayou Big Band, a jazz group; Pride of 果冻APP Marching Band; Symphonic Band; Wind Ensemble; Brass Ensemble; Percussion Ensemble; Woodwind Ensemble; Concert Choir; Chamber Singers Gospel Choir; and Alexander-Soares Duo.<\/p>\n
